LIFE AT A DOCK, MUMBAI, INDIA, 2017
The early morning at Sassoon Dock in Mumbai unfolds like a symphony of organised chaos, a captivating blend of raw energy and the rhythm of daily life. As you step onto the busy fishing dock, a sensory overload begins to immerse you in the vibrant tapestry of sights, sounds, and the essence of hard work.
The soundscape is a cacophony of voices, the lapping of waves against the dock, and the occasional creaking of boats. The hustle and bustle of the morning market are in full swing. Fishmongers and workers weave through the narrow pathways, deftly carrying crates overflowing with a vibrant assortment of fishes, their movements synchronized with the ebb and flow of the ocean tides.
Boats, weathered and marked by the tales of their voyages, return from the deep seas, their hulls laden with the day's catch. The energy is palpable as fishermen unload the treasures of the sea, their faces marked by determination and resilience. At the same time, other boats are preparing for their next venture, the clatter of fueling stations and the mechanical hum of engines creating a backdrop to the maritime ballet.

On the periphery, trucks are being loaded with boxes of fish, ready to transport the ocean's bounty to various corners of the city. The contrast between the serene sea and the industrious activity on land is captivating
Amidst the organized chaos, workers take a respite from their labor, forming small groups engaged in leisurely pursuits. Some sit in the shade, enjoying a break with mates, the cards in their hands a testament to camaraderie forged in the crucible of hard work. Laughter and conversation punctuate the air, offering a glimpse into the human stories behind the labor.
Through the lens of my camera, I have tried to capture the raw and unfiltered essence of life at Sassoon Dock. The faces tell stories of resilience, perseverance, and the unyielding spirit of those who make their living from the sea. The early morning light casts a warm glow on the scene, illuminating the scene with a touch of magic, turning the mundane into something extraordinary.
